HUGH Baird College is excited to announce the launch of its After School Healthcare Academy, specifically designed for Year 11 students with a keen interest in Health and Social Care.

The Academy is not just another classroom experience; it's an interactive, hands-on journey led by their expert team of lecturers, blending fun with real-world applications.

The Academy consists of four engaging sessions, allowing pupils to participate in practical workshops and gain a deeper understanding of healthcare practices and patient behaviours. These sessions are a stepping stone towards a career in healthcare, ideal for students who are either set on studying a Health related course once they finish school or those who are still exploring their options.

The workshops will be conducted on the College's multi million-pound Healthcare Campus in Bootle, equipped with a state of the art Simulation Suite replicating a real hospital ward. This setting provides an unparalleled experience for students to apply what they learn in a realistic healthcare environment.

Students can register for all 4 workshops or choose individual sessions that align with their interests and schedules. The sessions include:-

Glow in the Dark Germ Busters (Wednesday, 21 February 2024, 4pm – 5pm):
  • A session revealing the hidden world of germs and the importance of proper hygiene.
Healthcare Heroes Simulation (Wednesday, 28 February 2024, 4pm - 5pm):
  • An immersive experience into the world of personal protective equipment and simulated emergency scenarios.
The Patient Mobility Challenge (Wednesday, 6 March 2024, 4pm - 5pm):
  • A practical workshop focusing on patient mobility, including the operation of hoists and slings.
Mealtime Masters (Wednesday, 13 March 2024, 4pm - 5pm):

The Academy is a unique opportunity for Year 11 students to dive into the world of healthcare and get a taste of what a career in this growing sector entails.
