MANY of you might know that the owner of Broadhurst’s Bookshop, Laurie Hardman, died recently. The iconic bookshop, which is located on Market Street, in Southport Town Center is known internationally as Laurie.  Today, Wednesday, 5 June  2024, was his funeral, which was held in private, with just family and staff attending.

Broadhurst’s is 1 the oldest 2nd hand and antiquarian bookshops in the UK, having been established in 1920 by Charles Kenyon Broadhurst.  Laurie began working at the bookshop in 1969 and eventually took it over. His amazing knowledge and unique style won him many famous friends and a huge following.  We had the privilege of interviewing Laurie back in 2022 and hearing his amazing stories. Since his death, many people have paid tributes to him,

A Broadhurst’s bookshop statement said:- "We are saddened to announce the death of our proprietor, boss, and friend, Laurie Hardman. He was the heart and soul of Broadhurst’s for many years, and will be much missed in the months and years to come."
